Unloading logs. I have to "scale" or measure them to pay the logger. The end coating has been applied to protect from splitting due to too rapid drying.

Comment by Dryad Studios on January 11, 2012 at 5:29pm Thank you again Esther...... Self taught.... but, all the information necessary is out there in books. Life on the mountain, with the nearest neighbor a mile away, has afforded ample hours to study and practice. A bit of talent and an, also talented, and enduring wife helped me slog through all the "wish-I-could-forget", pieces. The three kids are so good now.
After 33 years, "Experience is simply how we explain our mistakes"......about sums it up.
I guess these photos show that you guys are in earnest about living the Arts & Crafts philosophy! And that little cabinet is just to die for. . . Well, if one of the deadly sins is greed, I'm guilty because, hook or crook, I'm going to save, borrow, or conjure the money to buy one of them. Did you learn furniture making by yourselves or did you learn from a master?
